Christmas Letter 2011

Dear Friends,

A few years ago Barbara and I traveled to Colorado for the Christmas Holiday.  Our trip had a dual purpose. One to visit my brother and his family in Grand Junction and the other was to spend some quality time skiing.

After spending a beautiful Christmas with my brother including the opening of a car load of presents we took off for our ski trip.

Our first stop was to the town of Keystone, where after being fitted with ski’s we hit the chair lift. Our first run started at the top of the Rockies with a view of Colorado that I don’t think I’ll ever forget. Looking down the 5 mile run, I had only one thought on my mind, “How am I going to make down in one piece?”  Needless to say, with a lot of encouragement from Barbara I made it to the bottom an hour and half later.  Once I finished my run, I decided that I should not ski any longer.

That evening we left for our hotel located in Glenwood Springs. After a white knuckle drive through the mountains in a near whiteout storm, we reached the Hotel Colorado.

Feet in Christmas socks near fireplace. Family relaxing at home.

This beautiful hotel was built in 1893 and was the first building in Glenwood Springs to have electricity. At Christmas time the hotel is completely lit up with lights and Christmas scenes. The lobby has two fireplaces and is completely decked out with automated Santa’s and helpers.

After our arrival it continued to snow and snow, my dreams of skiing disappeared into days of sitting by the fireplace and reading a great book.

Merry Christmas!
